About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The Doctor of Midwifery is designed for established professionals in the health sector who wish to enhance their research-related professional practice and management. Graduates will be able to engage in high quality independent research and inquiry into their own practice and contribute original knowledge to improving health related practice, systems and policy. They will be able to link, in a coherent and rigorous manner, theory and research to questions of professional practice and management of the health system. Graduates will have advanced knowledge of their professional field and be able to evaluate and apply research and scholarly literature. They will adopt an investigative, open-minded, critical and reflective stance in addressing scholarly and professional problems from different perspectives, skillfully communicate research results to both academic and professional communities, and be able to engage in and critique the process of peer review. Graduates will demonstrate leadership in the areas of their professional endeavor as well as high personal ethical standards and behaviours in scholarly and professional contexts, and respect and maintain intellectual integrity.

Minimum requirements

To be admitted to the programme students need to hold a Masters or Postgraduate Diploma with a minimum GPA of B, have at least five years professional experience and have established to the satisfaction of the Associate Dean that they are capable of proceeding with the doctorate.
