What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the engineering industry with engineering technicians specialised in civil, electrical, electronics, mechanical or fire engineering.
Graduates will be capable of operating at a technician level scope of practice as outlined by the Dublin Accord (International Engineering Alliance, 2002).
Engineering Technicians implement proven engineering techniques and procedures to solve practical engineering problems. They apply safe systems of work and contribute to the design, development, manufacture, commissioning, operation and maintenance of products, processes and services.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
NCEA Level 2 which must include: 12 credits in Literacy Level 1 or above and 12 credits in Mathematics (including Algebra, Calculus or Geometry) Level 2 or above OR New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 4) Ara New Zealand Diploma in Engineering Pathway or equivalent OR If you have undertaken examinations other than NCEA (e.g. International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examination), Ara will assess your qualification for academic entry equivalency. English requirement: IELTS 6.0 Academic (no lower than 5.5 in any subtest)
