About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the hairdressing industry with professional hairstylists who have the obtained the knowledge and practical skills to independently perform salon and client services that contribute to the effective operation of a commercial salon.
This qualification is intended for people with prior knowledge of hairstyling and colouring tasks and basic hair cutting techniques, who wish to develop skills and knowledge to become a professional hairstylist
Graduates will be recognised by industry as professional hairstylists, able to provide integrated fashion services, and capable of operating under broad guidance.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
10 NCEA Level 1 literacy credits and 10 NCEA Level 1 numeracy credits or New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Salon Support) (Level 3) or New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Emerging Stylist) (Level 4) Alternative Requirements Skills for tertiary study (including literacy and numeracy) may be acquired through study, work and/or life experience. Students who can demonstrate these skills may be approved for alternative entry. Literacy and numeracy assessments are available. English Requirements Applicants for whom English is not their first language may also be required to provide evidence of English language skills as listed below. Applicants who do not have evidence of English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, may contact us for an assessment.
