What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is:
- To provide the food and beverage sector with staff competent to work as food servers with advanced skills in restaurants or shift supervisors in a quick-service restaurant.
- To provide a credential for those employed as food servers, that will enhance their employment opportunities across a range of establishments in the hospitality sector.
- To establish standards of professional practice for advanced food and beverage service that can provide customers with confidence in a range of hospitality environments.
The strands in this qualification allow graduates to specialise in an area of food and beverage service.
Graduates will be able to operate as food servers with advanced skills in restaurants or as shift supervisors in a quick-service restaurant.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
10 NCEA Level 1 Literacy credits and 10 NCEA Level 1 Numeracy credits OR New Zealand Certificate in Food and Beverage Service (Level 3) or equivalent. OR If you have undertaken examinations other than NCEA (e.g. International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examination), Ara will assess your qualification for academic entry equivalency. English Requirements: IELTS 5.5 Academic (no lower than 5.0 in any subtest)
