About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is:
- To provide competent employees for the hospitality sector who are able to work as chefs in intermediate positions producing complex dishes in a commercial kitchen.
- To provide a credential for those employed as chefs in intermediate positions, that will enhance their employment opportunities in a commercial kitchen across the hospitality sector.
- To establish standards of professional practice for complex cookery that can provide customers with confidence in a range of hospitality environments.
Graduates will be able to operate in a commercial kitchen as chefs in an intermediate position producing complex dishes.

Minimum requirements

10 NCEA Level 1 Literacy credits and 10 NCEA Level 1 Numeracy credits OR New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 3) or equivalent OR If you have undertaken examinations other than NCEA (e.g. International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examination), Ara will assess your qualification for academic entry equivalency English Requirements: IELTS 5.5 Academic (no lower than 5.0 in any subtest)
