Feed for Profit in the Dairy Industry (Micro-credential)

Entry into the Feed for Profit in the Dairy Industry (Micro-credential) will be in accordance with the Dairy Training Course Entry Policy and Procedures, and as outlined below.

Learners must:
1. Be 18 years of age or older
2. Have evidence of appropriate language competency if English is not the applicant's first language, such as an IELTS score of 5.5, with no band score lower than 5.0
3. Have previously completed at least two years of agriculture workplace experience within the past five years
4. Have proficiency in English and Mathematics that will enable likely successful completion of this course (for example a minimum of NCEA English and Maths level 1, or equivalent)
5. Have access to relevant farm records and information
6. Have their application reviewed by Dairy Training staff.

Applications outside the above conditions of entry may be considered in some circumstances, at the discretion of the Dairy Training Manager.

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this micro-credential is to fulfil the dairy industry's need for a concise, targeted course that improves pasture and feed management expertise among dairy farm decision-makers, enhancing the profitability and sustainability of pasture-based dairy systems in the NZ Dairy Industry.

On successful completion of this micro-credential, learners/ākonga will have the skills to analyse the feed and pasture components of a profitable and sustainable pasture-based dairy farm system. This includes the ability to develop a comprehensive annual feed budget, utilise advanced tools and technologies to manage diet and feed allocation, and optimise pasture growth and utilisation.

Further, this micro-credential will support the development of Māori business values of Rangatiratanga (self-determination) and Kaitiakitanga (guardianship) in learners by:

1. Providing the opportunity for skills development which can build mana and confidence in all learners to make pasture management decisions to manage and protect our whenua
2. Developing an understanding of sustainable resource usage to improve business efficiency.
