Entry requirements

There are no general academic entry requirements for this programme.

It is, however, strongly recommended that applicants have completed the requirements for
- Literacy and Numeracy for NCEA Level 1 or equivalent.

International [onshore]?applicants?must be 18 years or older and have proof that, within the?last 2 years, they have gained English language skills equivalent to IELTS level 5.5 with no band?score?lower than 5.

NOTE: There are no age restrictions to complete this programme, but it should be noted that a person must be of or over the age of 20 in order to apply to the District Licensing Committee for a Manager's Certificate and will be police vetted.

About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The aim of this micro-credential is to develop the professional knowledge and skills of learners, in bar services, and provide an opportunity to gain the Licensed Controller Qualification (LCQ).

The target student market for this micro-credential will be primarily for students, whether domestic or international [onshore], who:

- have left high school and are seeking employment skills as a bar manager in hospitality
- have limited work experience with working in bars and restaurants in the New Zealand hospitality sector, or
- have related experience, or are currently working in a bar and want to upskill
- are interested in studying hospitality, or
- are planning to pursue a career in the hospitality industry.
