About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification provides the engineering fabrication, steel construction, manufacturing, mechanical engineering and related industries with skilled welders who have attained the knowledge and skills required to safely and independently perform welding tasks to industry standards.

The qualification has been designed for individuals who are already working within an industry and wish to operate independently as a skilled welder, and individuals wishing to enter an industry as a skilled welder.

Graduates will be able to operate independently within their chosen discipline(s) and follow the written procedures utilised by their employer.

Minimum requirements

Career Preparation for Engineering Trades (Level 3) or New Zealand Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 3),or NZ Certificate in Welding (Level 3) or equivalent qualification or skills (trade test to be completed to assess equivalent industry skills * Applicants must be 16 years or older * For international students - general or academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.5 (or an equivalent acceptable English Entry criteria) * All applicants are interviewed prior to enrolling to determine their ability to cope with the programme and level. A further follow up interviews may be required to determine eligibility
