About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to equip people with underpinning electrical knowledge and basic practical skills to enter further training or entry-level employment, such as an apprenticeship, within the electrical industry and related electrical fields.

Graduates will be able to apply these skills under supervision by a licenced electrical worker, in accordance with the Electricity Act 1992 and any subsequent amendments.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Learner Eligibility: a) a domestic learner b) not also enrolled in secondary school; and is either c)i) 16 to 24 years of age (inclusive) at the time they commence the programme; or ii) 15 years of age at the time they commence the programme and has an early leaving exemption from their school. Admission requirements: NCEA Level 1 in Mathematics, and English. 8 credits at NCEA Level 1 in English (4 in reading, 4 in writing) The National Certificate in Educational Achievement (Level 1) [Ref: 0928] with Mathematics and English subjects; or equivalent knowledge and skills is a prerequisite for entry into programmes leading to this qualification. Applicants will be interviewed prior to enrolment to ensure they are fully informed of the programme requirements.
