About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to equip people with underpinning electrical knowledge and basic practical skills to enter further training or entry-level employment, such as an apprenticeship, within the electrical industry and related electrical fields.

Graduates will be able to apply these skills under supervision by a licenced electrical worker, in accordance with the Electricity Act 1992 and any subsequent amendments.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

General academic: The National Certificate in Education Achievement (Level 1) with Mathematics and English subjects are required to enter this programme. Applicants who do not have NCEA Level 1 or 2 in Mathematics or English will need to demonstrate (by way of an entry assessment) that they have an adequate understanding of maths, reading, and writing to meet programme requirements and to meet the required industry level. To meet health and safety requirements, the candidate must be able to carry out the practical components of the programme. Additional for International Students: For candidates who do not have English as the first language, the required English language skills are equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5.0 or above in all bands.
