What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification was co-developed by IT Professionals New Zealand (ITPNZ) and NZQA National Qualifications Services (NQS).

The purpose of this stranded qualification is to provide Aotearoa New Zealand with people who have attained IT knowledge and specialist professional and technical skills in networking or systems administration and current ways of working including Agile and DevOps.

Graduates of this stranded qualification will be capable of providing IT infrastructure advice and support relating to networking or systems administration using industry-relevant skills and knowledge.

Graduates will be capable of operating within the applicable professional standards and practice, both independently and as part of a team, and may demonstrate self-management and some responsibility for the performance of others. This will enable them to contribute to society, supporting digital proficiency and capability in a range of community and voluntary areas, and to proceed to further study.

Minimum requirements

Applicants must be 17 or over and will be eligible on the basis of meeting the requirements below: Applicants must have: The New Zealand Diploma in Information Technology Technical Support (Level 5) OR An equivalent qualification in Computing, Information Technology or Digital Technology OR Equivalent knowledge, skills and experience via work experience of a minimum of 2 years. All applicants must demonstrate an acceptable level of English language proficiency prior to being accepted into the programme. International Learners with English as a second language must provide evidence of meeting the required English language requirements from an internationally recognised English Proficiency Test. This includes: IELTS academic test - with a minimum score of 6.0 and no band score lower than 5.5 (Scores must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form) TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - with a minimum score of 60 and a writing score of 18 Cambridge English Qualifications B2 First or B2 First for Schools, or C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency with a score of 169 or above and no less than 162 in each skill OET with a minimum grade C or 200 in all sub-tests NZCEL Level 4 (Academic) Pearson Test of English (Academic) with a PTE academic score of 50 or above and no band score lower than 42 Language Certificate with a minimum achievement of C1 Expert International ESOL Written (LRW) PASS with no less than 25/50 in each skill and Spoken (S) PASS Trinity ISE ISE II with no less than distinction in any band 4 Results must come from one test conducted in the last 2 years. An applicant 17 years of age or over, who does not meet academic entry requirements, may be given entry to the programme if they can provide evidence of their likely success on the programme and following an interview
