About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to recognise the skills and knowledge required to provide advanced person-centred and/or relationship-centred care and support for a person with complex needs, and their whānau and/or family.

This qualification is targeted at individuals who have significant experience in a health or wellbeing setting and who are looking to gain the additional knowledge and skills required to provide person-centred/ relationship-centred care and support to a person with complex needs, and have the leadership capabilities and technical skills that can be demonstrated in the workplace.

The graduates will benefit by gaining recognition of transferable skills and knowledge valued across the health and wellbeing sectors and the specific skills and knowledge required to perform a role within these sectors.

The community will benefit through the provision of high quality health and wellbeing services by individuals who are trained to support people, their whānau and/or family, and the wider community.

Graduates will be capable of working under broad guidance and may have some responsibility for the performance of others.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

The entry requirements for this programme are: Academic Requirements: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) in Health Assistance or Support Work strand or equivalent qualification OR three years paid employment experience within the Health and Wellbeing sector. This must be evidenced by a Curriculum Vitae that provides information about the nature of work undertaken by the applicant and level of responsibility and accountability. This will be a case-by-case evaluation for each applicant. Access to healthcare facilities/organisations for compulsory workplace experience: The geographical range for acceptance of enrolment for this programme is the Greater Auckland and Waikato regions to ensure that NZSE can manage a suitable work placement of 200 hours which is a compulsory requirement for this programme. Domestic applicants may already be working in a suitable healthcare facility within this area. The suitability of this workplace will be confirmed by the NZSE Workplace Tutor. For those domestic and international applicants not currently working at a healthcare facility a suitable workplace will be arranged by the NZSE Workplace Tutor within the first semester of enrolment. Criminal Record Check: Healthcare workers work with people in vulnerable situations and this requires a high level of integrity and trust. New Zealand School of Education will carry out a criminal record check on prospective students. Student entry will be provisional until these checks have been completed. The outcome of the Police check will be kept on the applicant s files.
