Entry requirements

Entry to the PGCEL programme may be limited by the number of places available. Applicants will normally be engaged in some form of educational practice.The academic entry requirement for the PGCELM is one of the following: * an NZQF-listed undergraduate degree (or equivalent); or * at the Dean's discretion, where an applicant's situation is compelling but not covered by the requirements listed above. Applicants from countries in which English is not the primary spoken language must demonstrate an acceptable level of English language fluency prior to acceptance in the programme. Ways in which English language fluency may be demonstrated include (i) completion of a programme of study in 11 HB4062 Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Leadership - Programme Document - Effective from 2019 which English was the language of instruction (conditions apply*), and (ii) approved scores on IELTS tests, namely an Academic score of 6.5 with no band lower than 6 (or accepted international equivalents).

The overall aim of the PGCEL programme is to enable learners to develop the advanced knowledge and skills to position themselves as leaders in their respective work places. Graduates of the PGCEL programme have sound understanding of theories of effective leadership and management and how to apply these in an educational setting. They will be prepared to manage relationships and resources in a manner that enhances learner achievement and workplace goals. Graduates will be able to reflect critically on their leadership practices in this regard, based on a sound rationale and philosophy.
