About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification is for those intending to further develop underpinning skills and knowledge of building, construction and allied trades.

Graduates will have knowledge, skills, and experience of building, construction, and allied trades that may also assist with the achievement of NCEA and future employment. This qualification is not intended to recognise the level of commercial competence required of trade professionals.

Graduates will be able to perform construction tasks and undertake a Building, Construction and Allied Trades Skills (BCATS) project, under limited supervision, within a range of construction and allied trades learning environments such as school workshops, training establishments, outdoor areas, and industry placement workplaces.

Minimum requirements

It is Dunedin Training Centre s expectation that a learner who applies for a place on the Dunedin Training Centre New Zealand Certificate in Building, Construction and Allied Trades Skills (Level 3)programme will: be a domestic learner and 16 years of age and older hold the New Zealand Certificate in Building, Construction and Allied Trades (Level 2) or equivalent skills and knowledge have 10 credits at level 1 in each of numeracy and literacy and at or above step 3 reading and at or above step 4 numeracy on the Literacy and Numeracy for Adults Assessment Tool (LNAAT) participate in the interview process participate in the orientation process be fit and able to cope with the physical and mental demands of a building/construction environment
