What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the security sector with individuals who have obtained the fundamental knowledge and skills required to work as a security officer.
This qualification is suitable for individuals who want to operate as a security officer in the security industry or for individuals already operating in the security industry who would like to gain recognition for current experience.
Graduates will be capable of carrying out a broad range of tasks under limited supervision and will demonstrate transferable skills in a security work environment.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

It is strongly recommended that applicants have completed the requirements for Literacy and Numeracy for NCEA Level 1 or equivalent. Applicants must be physically able to cope with the range of demands of personnel working in the security sector. English language entry requirements: Applicants must have sufficient competence in the English language to undertake the programme which is taught and assessed in English. Students whose first language is not English or have not attended secondary school in New Zealand must provide evidence of competency in English language equivalent to IELTS General or Academic score of 5, with no band score lower than 5; achieved in a single test taken within two years of the date of application. There are no mandatory prerequisites (including prerequisites to meet regulatory body or legislative requirements) for entry to this qualification. However, to work in the Security Industry you are required to successfully obtain a Security Certificate of Approval from the Ministry of Justice. This includes a Police Vet.
