About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification will provide individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to operate independently, supervise others and work with stakeholders across the sport, recreation and exercise industries.

Graduates will be able to operate within a framework of health and wellness in relation to individual, group and community needs.

Graduates can apply their skills within the sport, recreation and exercise industries to contribute to the cultural, social and economic wellbeing of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

All domestic applicants under the age of 20: NCEA Level 2 with a minimum of 42 credits at Level 3, or Equivalent educational achievement, or Special Admission For applicants for whom English is not their first language, evidence of language competency may be required. Detailed Requirements All domestic applicants under the age of 20: ? NCEA Level 2 with a minimum of 42 credits at Level 3, or ? New Zealand Certificate in Exercise, or ? New Zealand certificate in Freestyle Group Exercise, or ? Equivalent educational achievement, or ? Special Admission (see below) For applicants for whom English is not their first language, evidence of language competency may be required. Special admission Applicants who do not meet the academic requirements may be given special admission if they can provide evidence that they are capable of achieving the programme outcomes. Special admission may also apply for applicants over 20 years. International applicants for whom English is not their first language will be required to show evidence of language competency, issued within the last two years. The level of competency required is: IELTS general or academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5 or completed NZ Certificate in English Language Level 3 with an endorsement of either General, Workplace or Academic, or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in NZQF related Rules (Rule 18) The Table.
