What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification is designed for experienced people working in the Health and Wellbeing sector; people wanting to enter the sector; and professionals seeking development opportunities within a health and wellbeing setting.

The Health and Wellbeing community of New Zealand will benefit from having graduates with the skills and knowledge required across a range of vocations and disciplines, to support people to achieve their health and wellbeing aspirations.

Graduates of this qualification will work independently as practitioners in some sectors, or under the supervision of professional or qualified clinicians, in others.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age with a minimum of 60 credits at NCEA Level 2 in one year or equivalent preferably in biology, and have no communicable diseases, physical or psychological impairments which may adversely affect to undertake a programme of study or work in the health and wellbeing sector. Applicants must be able to communicate competently I English. International students or residents whose first language is neither English nor Maori must have a minimum overall IELTS score of 5.5 with no band lower than 5.0 or equivalent evidence of English language proficiency. All applicants must undergo an interview to confirm their suitability for the programme. Applicants who do not meet the criteria above, but present evidence of ability to succeed (e.g. maturity, life experience, work experience, other study) or; is enthusiastic and motivated to achieve or; provides evidence of relevant prior learning and experience will be considered as mature entrance. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS for the Health and Wellbeing sector - Level 5 Applicants must declare any health issues or disability on a path towards confident, independent professional practice to allow Skill New Zealand to consider whether appropriate support can be provided, and the likelihood of the applicant's ability to meet professional requirements and practice independently on completion of the programme. * Applicants must consent to the completion of a Police Vetting check. * Applicants will be required to consent to a disclosure of criminal convictions and safety checks required by the Children's Act 2014 (VCA Act). * May be required to meet Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (HPCA Act).
