What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is for reusable medical device technicians to develop the required knowledge and skills to lead a team and manage the operational requirements of a reusable medical device reprocessing service in support of safe patient centred healthcare in health service organisations.

This qualification provides the minimum qualification required for the person responsible for the reusable medical device reprocessing facility in a hospital setting.

Minimum requirements

Domestic applicants under 20 and all international applicants must have NCEA Level 2 with passes in English/Te Reo Maori or education achievement at least equivalent to NCEA Level 2 and a minimum of 42 credits at level 3, and Certificate in Sterilising Technology (Level 3) (Open Polytechnic), or New Zealand Certificate in Sterilising Technology (Level 4), or equivalent, and Learners must have access to the internet that will enable them to meet the directed learning hours. Learners must be able to demonstrate access to sterilisation technology, either by employment, or the ability to complete work experience, in a relevant business with access to these facilities. English as a second language For applicants for whom English is not their first language, evidence of language competency may be required. International applicants for whom English is not their first language will be required to show evidence of language competency, issued within the last two years. The level of competency required is: IELTS academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5, or completed NZ Certificate in English Language Level 4 with a general or employment endorsement, or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in NZQF related Rules (Rule 18) - The Table
