About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the reusable medical device reprocessing industry with technicians who have the knowledge and skills to reprocess reusable medical devices to the required standard in support of safe, patient-centred healthcare in health service organisations.

Graduates will be able to work independently.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

[DOM L4.1] - All applicants must have NCEA Level 2 with passes in English/Te Reo Maori or education achievement at least equivalent to NCEA Level 2, or [SPECIAL] New Zealand Certificate in Sterilising Technology (Level 3), or 6 months employment in a sterilization services environment, or any Level 3 qualification (or higher) over 60 credits registered on the NZQA framework, or evidence that the enrolling student can be successful at Level 4 study; and [ [OTHER] - Learners must have access to a workplace for a minimum of 64 supervised work experience hours across the programme, where they will have access to at least one form of sterilisation. English as a second language [DOM L4.2] For applicants for whom English is not their first language, evidence of language competency may be required. International applicants for whom English is not their first language will be required to show evidence of language competency, issued within the last two years. The level of competency required is: IELTS general or academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5, or completed NZ Certificate in English Language Level 3 with an applied endorsement or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in NZQF related Rules (Rule 18) The Table.
