About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification provides the heavy automotive engineering industry with individuals who have attained the knowledge and skills to safely and effectively diagnose and repair faults that are commonly encountered on heavy vehicles or machines, including road transport, plant and equipment, agricultural equipment or materials handling contexts.

This qualification is designed for people working in the industry as heavy automotive engineers.

Graduates of this qualification can work independently and may take some responsibility for monitoring the workplace.

Minimum requirements

Brief Entry Requirements * A Level 3 qualification in Automotive Engineering, or * Evidence of equivalent skills and knowledge * Must be employed in a heavy automotive engineering workplace For applicants for whom English is not their first language, evidence of language competency may be required. Detailed Requirements * A Level 3 qualification in Automotive Engineering, or * Equivalent skills and knowledge * Must be employed in a heavy automotive engineering workplace which is operating at a commercially acceptable industry standard. Enrolment into this programme will also require the apprentice, employer, and provider to enter into a training agreement. International applicants for whom English is not their first language will be required to show evidence of language competency, issued within the last two years. The level of competency required is: IELTS general or academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5 or completed NZ Certificate in English Language Level 3 with an endorsement of either General, Workplace or Academic, or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in NZQF related Rules (Rule 18) - The Table.
