About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the heavy haulage industry with people who have the competencies to safely and successfully pilot trips involving specialist heavy haulage combination vehicles with overdimension and overweight loads requiring a Class 1 certified pilot.

This qualification is targeted at people who are interested or involved in the heavy haulage industry and who may already be certified as a Class 2 pilot. Learners will benefit by having a qualification that enables improved job performance and enhanced employment opportunities in the field of heavy haulage.

The award of this qualification may be used as evidence to support an application to the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) to become a Class 1 certified pilot.

This qualification does not permit the holder to drive a motor vehicle on New Zealand roads without a current relevant driver licence issued by the NZTA.
