About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the health and wellbeing sector with people who have the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to work alongside people, family and/or whānau accessing social and community services.

This is an entry-level qualification targeted at people already working in, or those who intend to be employed in or develop a career in supporting the health and wellbeing of people, family and/or whānau, and the wider community.

The qualification includes five strands which recognise the specialist skills and knowledge required of people working in various roles within social and community services.

Graduates will benefit by gaining a qualification that recognises their ability to support people family and/or whānau accessing social and community services within the health and wellbeing sector and a pathway to further qualifications.

Graduates will be capable of working in a self-managed capacity under broad guidance.

This qualification is not associated with professional registration or a clinical scope of practice.

Minimum requirements

GENERAL ADMISSION * A New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Level 3 qualification, or other relevant Level 3 Health qualification, or NCEA Level 2. OR * Mature applicants may be interviewed to consider their suitability and understanding of working in the mental health and addiction sectors and the requirements for completing the programme. Other Requirements * Applicants will be interviewed to assess their suitability and capacity to relate well to, and work safely with, clients within the Mental Health and Addiction sector. * Applicants must have sufficient literacy and numeracy and digital literacy skills to complete assessments. These may be determined through an interview or testing. * International applicants with English as an additional language are required to provide proof of their English language competency as specified in the NZQA English language requirements for Certificate programmes of study at Level 4. * Applicants must have access to a device such as a laptop or tablet and internet availability to complete the programme. * Applicants will need to provide evidence to meet workplace requirements for practicum such as immunisation records, including all COVID - 19 vaccinations. * At enrolment, a Ministry of Justice check will be done, and applicants will be required to sign a declaration confirming that they have no past or pending criminal convictions or proceedings. A full Police check, including disclosure under the Vulnerable Children's Act, will be completed by Future Skills Academy. If criminal convictions are present the student will either be withdrawn from the programme or be asked to find their own work placement depending on the nature of the convictions and at the discretion of the Head of Department. * Two references are required. These must be one of character and the other from an employer the applicant has worked for. In cases where the applicant has not held a job, a reference should be from some
