About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide global and local organisations with people who have the skills and knowledge to undertake intermediate-level operational and administration roles in either the shipping or international freight forwarding sectors.

Learners will benefit by having a qualification which recognises skills and knowledge to enable improved job performance and/or a credential to advance career opportunities in the international freight logistics industry.

The freight forwarding strand provides the industry with people who have good understanding of concepts, legislation and practice to undertake intermediate-level operational and administration tasks related to organising international shipments for individuals or companies for the carriage of goods from the manufacturer or producer to a market, customer or final point of distribution.

The shipping strand provides the industry with people who have good understanding of concepts, legislation and practice to undertake intermediate-level operational and administration tasks related to organising and providing international carriage of goods by ship.

This qualification is targeted at people with some entry-level experience or prior learning related to the international freight logistics industry. Graduates will be capable of working at an intermediate level under broad guidance with a degree of self-management in either a shipping or international freight forwarding context.

40 NCEA credits at Level 1 with a minimum of; 10 NCEA credits in English at Level 2, 10 NCEA credits in Mathematics at Level 2 OR completed New Zealand Certificate Level 3 in Retail, Distribution, Business OR New Zealand Certificate Level 3 in other field Other requirements for Distance online delivery mode students: Access to a computer (Preferably a laptop) and reliable high-speed internet service Internet Explorer or Firefox (latest) or Chrome Headset with microphone and it is recommended access to Web cam if no camera on device
