What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification is for people who wish to work with whānau in the development of a whānau-centred approach that supports whānau well-being.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide graduates with in-depth knowledge, skills and experiences in mātauranga Māori wellbeing approaches for Whānau Ora contexts.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to independently apply knowledge of Māori philosophies and theories of Māori wellbeing across a range of whānau ora contexts.

Minimum requirements

The pre-requisite to the level 5 diploma is the level 4 certificate in Whanau Ora. Manaaki Ora have determined that students who have completed the level 4 National Certificate in Hauora Maori are also eligible due to the similarities in content. This decision was made to avoid disadvantaging students who have completed the National Certificate in Hauora Maori qualification previous to it's expiry. Tauira will be advised at the beginning of the course about the assessment procedures including authenticity of material submitted for assessment, programme structure and content and the progression of the kaupapa of the programme. Tauira who are able to provide evidence of current competency or prior learning are also able to cross credit to the diploma or be granted with partial sections. Manaaki Ora will use internal policies to make decisions regarding cross crediting
