What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide people with the academic skills, capabilities, knowledge and attributes needed to prepare for higher level education or employment.

This qualification is for people intending to pursue further qualifications in their chosen field of study or employment pathway at New Zealand Qualifications Framework Level 5 or above.

The qualification acknowledges the primacy of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in programme design and delivery.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

A minimum of 40 credits at NCEA level 2 across four subjects including - Literacy 10 credits at Level 2 or above - Numeracy 10 credits at Level 1 or above Or New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3). If you have undertaken a qualification or examination other than NCEA (e.g. International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examination), NMIT will assess this for academic entry equivalency. Applicants who are unable to evidence that they meet Academic Entry Requirements, but who can demonstrate acquired skills for tertiary study gained through study, work and/or life experience, may be approved for alternative entry. This may include Recognition of Prior Learning. Contact NMIT for advice. If English is not the applicant s first language they will need to provide a result from a test or qualification on the acceptable alternatives English Proficiency Outcomes Chart. Applicants who do not have evidence of English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, may contact NMIT for an assessment: IELTS 5.5 Academic (no lower than 5.0 in any subtest)
