What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide Aotearoa New Zealand with proficient early childhood educators who can provide and/or support the practice-based education and care of mokopuna - infants, toddlers, and young children in a range of early childhood contexts.

This qualification is intended for people who intend to work as early childhood educators or proceed to further study. This qualification does not lead to teacher registration.

Graduates may work independently or as part of a team in a range of early childhood contexts including those underpinned by specific philosophies, and to proceed to further study. It is also intended to enhance community outcomes.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Applicants must be proficient in the English language (both written and spoken); complete an online literacy test and participate in an interview process. Enrolment is subject to approval by the National Manager. Additionally, students are expected to pass a NZ Police vetting process (and, if international students, a Police Vet from their own country), to satisfy the Children's Act 2014 and to ensure confidence in our students when they go on placement. Two confidential referee checks from external parties are also required. Students under the age of 20 are required to have NCEA 2. International students must have an IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0. ATC New Zealand accepts other internationally recognised tests and other methods, where relevant, of providing acceptable evidence of English language proficiency as listed under rule 18 of NZQF Programme Approval and Accreditation Rules 2021, and in particular the 'Acceptable evidence of English language proficiency' found at: http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/providers-partners/qa-system-for-teos/english-international-students/
