About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide Christian churches, their agencies and community organisations with people who can support and enhance the experience of their communities; and who have attained the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to obtain employment, or work in a voluntary capacity, under broad supervision, as pastoral leaders and support staff associated with a variety of pastoral work.
The Christian Studies strand allows people to focus on the principles of biblical theological education that underpin their ability to assist people, lead small groups in agencies and community organisations, and assist church leaders in the planning, organisation and delivery of a variety of pastoral ministry roles.
The Internship strand allows people to engage with and support their faith communities as guides, mentors and leaders in a local church, agency or community organisation. This strand combines theory and practical experience and will benefit graduates by enabling them to experience a real-life practical context.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
General Admission: Domestic students must have NCEA Level 1 or NCEA Level 2, or equivalent. For Special Admission: Domestic students who have reached the age of 20 may be granted special admission to the programme. Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have a minimum IELTS score of 5.5 (Academic) or equivalent. All candidates must be capable of doing significant practical field work in their practical ministry setting.
