What can I expect out of this qualification?
This qualification is for individuals who are existing education support/ teacher aides or seeking an education support/ teacher aide position.
Graduates will be able to work under broad guidance, and effectively support learning from early childhood to tertiary and community education.

Minimum requirements
NCEA L2 with passes in English/Te Reo Maori or demonstrate equivalence and, Access to an education setting to complete work experience hours under supervision and, Undergo a safety check consistent with the Vulnerable Children s Act 2014 Evidence of language competency may be required Detailed Entry Requirements DOM L4.1 - All applicants must have NCEA Level 2 with passes in English/Te Reo Maori or education achievement at least equivalent to NCEA Level 2 and, Applicants must be able to demonstrate they have access to an education setting in which their work experience can be completed under supervision* (applicants may be supported to locate a suitable setting but Toi Ohomai does not undertake to provide placements for students) and, Applicants will be required to undergo a safety check consistent with the Vulnerable Children s Act 2014. This will include: - **Satisfactory reference check - ***Satisfactory police check - Verification of identity [DOM L4.2] for applicants for whom English is not their first language, evidence of language competency may be required. Evidence of ability to meet academic requirements where English is not a first language may be required: For international applicants who come from non-English speaking backgrounds, an IELTS General or Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0, or an equivalent relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in NZQF-related rules (Rule 18). All applicants will either attend an information session or be interviewed by a member of Toi Ohomai staff before enrolment is approved.
