What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification is designed for ākonga/learners who are seeking to develop broad technical skills and conceptual knowledge in arts, craft or design creative practice.

A range of industries will benefit from graduates who possess arts, craft or design creative capabilities.

Graduates will be able to operate independently within arts, craft and/or design creative and commercial environments.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

To gain entry: Applicants must be 17 years of age or over. Applicants must be New Zealand citizens, permanent residents or have the requisite visa for study purposes. Students must be able to demonstrate adequate literacy and/or numeracy skills to enable them to meet all academic and health and safety requirements of the programme/course on which they enrol. For domestic applicants under 20 years old, domestic applicants 20 years old and over and International applicants: Applicants must have completed NCEA Level 2 with passes in English English/Te Reo Maori and maths or a Level 3 qualification in a related field or equivalent qualification or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills as approved by the Programme Area Lead. A portfolio containing 10 pieces of work: Applicants are required to submit a portfolio when they apply for the programme. The portfolio will show applicants creative ideas, originality, curiosity and imagination, and how they can use this within creative work. Special admission: Waiariki will consider students for special admission who do not satisfy the standard academic entry requirements of a programme but who in the opinion of the Programme Area Lead are capable of achieving the programme outcomes. English Language: Applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of having achieved an IELTS (International English Language Test Score) of Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0 in each academic category: reading, listening, writing and speaking as per NZQA Appendix 2 requirements and issued within the last two years.
