About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide Aotearoa New Zealand with people who have attained a broad understanding of the core concepts and practical skills in Information Technology (IT), can apply the fundamentals of current and emerging concepts and practice in IT, and are able to proceed to further IT-related study.

As an emerging IT professional, graduates will be aware of appropriate professional practice, and work both as part of a team and independently, under broad supervision.

Graduates of this qualification will have the IT skills that will enable them to contribute to society, supporting digital proficiency and capability in a range of community and voluntary areas.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Learners must meet the following entry requirements into this programme: Be aged 16 years or over and have left school. Complete a selection interview process to ensure they are able to meet the demands of the programme and are eligible under the funding criteria. It is recommended that people enrolling on this programme have completed the New Zealand Certificate in Information Technology Essentials (Level 4) [Ref:2594], or demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience. Show an ability to study at Level 5 with adequate literacy and numeracy skills by either providing evidence of study at Level 4, or equivalent knowledge and skills to enable study at Level 5, and must complete the Numeracy and Reading assessment on the LNAAT.
