About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide New Zealand with individuals who can safely and effectively participate in outdoor experiences.
This qualification will provide a diverse range of workplaces, communities, and education organisations with graduates who hold the essential technical skills needed to maintain own personal safety while undertaking outdoor experiences in familiar environments which are low risk, low technical.
Graduates will be able to operate under the direct supervision and guidance of an outdoor leader or instructor.

Minimum requirements
To gain admission to Turanga Ararau requires applicants to be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. To gain entry to the programme learners will need to have literacy and numeracy skills at step 3 or above on the assessment tool, preferably a relevant level 2 qualification or equivalent experience and a demonstrated commitment to work in the industry.
