About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide Aotearoa New Zealand with people who have business knowledge and skills that can be applied in a range of operational business contexts.

Graduates will be able to contribute to the achievement of business operational objectives, through the application of knowledge and skills, in an ethical and inclusive manner, in accordance with ngā kaupapa o te Tiriti o Waitangi (the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi), and in a multi-cultural environment.

The qualification includes strands that allow graduates to apply knowledge and skills in a range of specialised business operational contexts. Some strands can lead to further credentialing by professional bodies.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Academic requirements for applicants under 20 years old, 14 numeracy credits at level 1 or higher in Mathematics or Pangarau on the Directory of Assessment Standards, 50 credits at level 2 or above with at least 12 credits in each of three subjects including a minimum of 8 literacy credits at level 2 or higher in English or Te Reo Maori, of which 4 credits must be in reading and 4 credits must be in writing, OR equivalent to the above. Applicants 20 years or over, no minimum academic requirements, however, applicants will need to provide their curriculum vitae detailing any relevant work experience and academic achievements. The Head of Department will use this information to assess whether the applicant is likely to successfully complete the NZ Diploma in Business Programme. If English is not the applicant's first language they may be required to provide evidence of English language proficiency as set out in Appendix 2 of the NZQF Programme Approval and Accreditation Rules 2013, Version 2, available at www.nzqa.govt.nz. All applicants may be required to attend an interview. In exceptional circumstances an applicant who does not meet the academic entry requirements may be accepted at the discretion of the Academic Committee.
