What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the youth work sector with youth workers who have the operational and theoretical knowledge, skills and attitudes to contribute to the development and safety of taiohi.
This qualification is for people who intend to develop their skills, knowledge and practice within the youth work sector.
Graduates will be able to carry out youth work roles under managerial supervision and guidance.
Graduates will support the social and cultural aspirations of Māori and Pacific people(s) and demonstrate their commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi through their interactions with taiohi and their communities and their work.

Minimum requirements
The entry requirements for this programme are: Academic Entry requirements 4 New Zealand Certificate in Youth Work (Level 4) NZQCF Ref: 2449 v4 Programme Structure Entry is open to all learners who are over 18 years at the time of enrolment and start date of the programme. To be admitted to this programme, all applicants must meet the following requirements: Face-to-face: Entry Requirements (Domestic learners) Be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. - Over 18 years of age - Attained NCEA Level 2 (or equivalent) AND have a keen interest in working in the youth work development industry, previous work experience as a volunteer or paid in a youth work role is recommended but not a requirement, and successfully attend an interview. Establish themselves as a fit and proper person before entry and before undertaking a through the following: - Have a satisfactory report from New Zealand Police vetting system if in NZ; learners must complete the form to authorise Skill New Zealand to apply for this report. Before undertaking a work placement to ensure ongoing compliance as a fit and proper person. - Sign an Attestation Statement that nothing has occurred that would change the initial police check. - Provide a current CV for the workplace. - Undergo a pre-employment drug and alcohol if this is required of the organisation where the placement will be undertaken. - Any legislation checks that are context specific for the organisational policies and procedures of the workplace, such as Children s Act 2014.
