About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the hairdressing industry with individuals who have obtained sufficient knowledge, practical skills and attitudes to perform salon and client services that contribute to the effective operation of the salon.
This qualification is suitable for learners with prior knowledge of salon support and client support services in a hairdressing salon, who wish to develop skills and knowledge towards becoming a hairstylist.
Graduates will be capable of operating at an intermediate level under broad guidance.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
Academic Requirements New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Salon Support) (Level 3) or equivalent. Alternative Requirements Skills for tertiary study (including literacy and numeracy) may be acquired through study, work and/or life experience. Students who can demonstrate these skills may be approved for alternative entry. Ara literacy and numeracy assessments are available. English Requirements If English is not your first language you may also be required to provide evidence of your English language skills as listed below. If you have no evidence of your English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, contact us for an assessment. IELTS 5.5 Academic (no lower than 5.0 in any subtest). For acceptable alternatives refer to the English Proficiency Outcomes Chart. Note: Students who have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance requirements are not required to provide evidence of English Language Skills.
