About the course
What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the hairdressing industry with people who have obtained sufficient knowledge, practical skills and attitudes to perform limited salon and client services that contribute to the effective operation of a salon.
This qualification is intended for people who may have no prior knowledge or experience in hairdressing and who wish to learn hairstyling and colouring tasks and basic hair cutting techniques.
Graduates will be capable of operating at a foundation level under supervision.

Entry Requirements
Minimum requirements
Entry is open to New Zealand citizens or permanent residents, but to qualify for funding students must meet the applicable funding criteria for Youth Guarantee. Selection is conducted by way of an interview to determine eligibility for funding, individual learning needs, and suitability for the programme. Entry will require a meeting the requirements for Level 1 NCEA in Literacy and Numeracy, or 8 credits from unit 21935-21941, or equivalent knowledge and skills as measured by the L&N assessment tool.
