About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the apiculture industry with individuals who have the knowledge and skills to rear queen bees.

The industry will benefit from having a supply of quality queen bees to ensure genetic diversification to establish and restock existing and new hives. The wider community (including parks and gardens) and New Zealand as a whole will benefit from having a supply of queen bees to enable new or restocked hives to operate effectively and contribute to the supply of bees for pollination which ensures the on-going supply of food sources.

Graduates will be able to work independently and could supervise others.

Minimum requirements

Applicant s eligibility for enrolment within the programme (via academic achievement) will be evaluated before a pre-enrolment interview is conducted where eligibility via life skills and industry experience will be discussed and assessed with the applicant. Academic Achievement Applicants should demonstrate an ability to succeed in tertiary study, shown by the completion of any of the following qualifications or courses of study: 6.1.1 Attained NCEA L1 or equivalent Life Skills/Work Experience Applicants who do not meet the academic entry criteria above may be admitted to the programme/course of study if they are able to demonstrate: 6.1.3 Minimum of 1yr within the apiculture industry
