About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is:
- To supply the food and beverage sector with employees who are able to provide service in cafes and unlicensed restaurants, quick-service restaurants, bars or clubs, restaurants offering table or buffet service, establishments catering functions in-house, or baristas.
- To provide a credential for those individuals who are employed as service personnel that will support their employment opportunities across a range of establishments in the hospitality sector.
- To establish standards of professional practice for basic service that can provide customers with confidence in a range of hospitality environments.
The strands in this qualification allow graduates to specialise in an area of food and beverage service.
Graduates will be able to operate to provide food and/or beverage service in a casual dining or bar context.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Applicants must be 18 years or above (due to NZ liquor licensing laws), have left school and are eligible for the selected funding criteria that this programme will operate under. They should have a desire to work in the hospitality industry, and have an appropriate level of literacy and numeracy skill to study at level 3. This programme does not exclude any learners with particular cultural needs and support can be provided for any learners who require it in order to meet programme requirements
