About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is:
- To supply the food and beverage sector with employees who are able to provide service in cafes and unlicensed restaurants, quick-service restaurants, bars or clubs, restaurants offering table or buffet service, establishments catering functions in-house, or baristas.
- To provide a credential for those individuals who are employed as service personnel that will support their employment opportunities across a range of establishments in the hospitality sector.
- To establish standards of professional practice for basic service that can provide customers with confidence in a range of hospitality environments.
The strands in this qualification allow graduates to specialise in an area of food and beverage service.
Graduates will be able to operate to provide food and/or beverage service in a casual dining or bar context.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Domestic applicants: -Open entry: there are no pre-requisite qualifications. In addition to the above, students who are eligible to enrol in the distance programme will also need to be employed with a minimum of 20 hours in a relevant role within the Hospitality sector (either paid or voluntary). International applicants must meet the following criteria: -General or Academic IELTS score of 5 with no band score less than 5.0 overall or approved equivalent under Rule 22. IT requirements: -Have access to a computer with prescribed basic hardware requirements as per marketing material, a microphone, and a reliable internet connection.
