About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is:
- To provide competent employees for the hospitality sector who are able to work as chefs in intermediate positions producing complex dishes in a commercial kitchen.
- To provide a credential for those employed as chefs in intermediate positions, that will enhance their employment opportunities in a commercial kitchen across the hospitality sector.
- To establish standards of professional practice for complex cookery that can provide customers with confidence in a range of hospitality environments.
Graduates will be able to operate in a commercial kitchen as chefs in an intermediate position producing complex dishes.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Entry into this programme is for learners who have completed cookery study at Level 3 or demonstrated equivalent knowledge or work experience. Applicants must be 17 years or older. An assessment of prior learning (APL) may be considered for candidates with good industry background to credit compulsory standards for entry to the programme. All APL candidates are required to submit relevant proof of industry experience. Where a wait list exists for entry into this programme, applicants with work experience in commercial cookery or previous foundation learning in hospitality related submits may be selected above candidates without. International students: Applicants whom English is a second language must meet IELTS (or equivalent) level 5.5 or above. Applicants must be 18 years or older. KIWA Institute of Education has agreed to be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral care of International Students published by the Ministry of Education.
