About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is:
- To provide competent employees for the hospitality sector who are able to work as chefs in intermediate positions producing complex dishes in a commercial kitchen.
- To provide a credential for those employed as chefs in intermediate positions, that will enhance their employment opportunities in a commercial kitchen across the hospitality sector.
- To establish standards of professional practice for complex cookery that can provide customers with confidence in a range of hospitality environments.
Graduates will be able to operate in a commercial kitchen as chefs in an intermediate position producing complex dishes.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Domestic students: o Aged 17 or older and; o NCEA Level 1 or equivalent or; o New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 3) or; o Relevant and current industry experience International students additionally must meet the following criteria: o Aged 18 or older and; o Academic or General IELTS 5.5 with no band scores less than 5.0 overall or NZQA approved equivalent. Additional requirement for learners who enrol in the distance programme. To be eligible, students enrolling in the distance delivery model must: * Be employed with a minimum of 20 hours in a relevant role in a commercial kitchen (either paid or voluntary) and; * Produce a workplace attestation from their employer confirming access to a commercial kitchen to produce the full range of course content and; * Have access to a computer with prescribed basic hardware requirements as per marketing material, a microphone, and a reliable internet connection
