What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the pharmacy sector with people who carry out a wide range of advanced pharmacy dispensing services, and support the provision of safe, patient-centred healthcare, under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Minimum requirements

The entry requirements for this programme are: Minimum Age: Applicants must be aged a minimum of 17 years old at the start of the programme and meet the academic requirements of this programme Academic Requirements: New Zealand Certificate in Pharmacy (Pharmacy Technician-Core) Level 4 [Ref 1888] English Requirements: Students for whom English is their second language must have English language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English. Domestic students who have not undertaken secondary study in English are required to have achieved Academic score of 6.0, with no band score lower than 6.0 in NZ Certificate in English Language Level 4 (Academic) or International Language Testing systems such as (IELTS), or Language Cert C1 or equivalent. The score must have been achieved in one test taken in the preceding two years. This is subject to NZQA Rule 18, details of which can be found at: http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/about-us/our-role/legislation/nzqa-rules/nzqf-related-rules/the-table/ Criminal Record Check: Pharmacy technicians, while in training and once qualified, will be able to dispense Controlled Drugs as defined under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975 and this requires a high level of integrity and trust. NZSE will carry out a criminal record check on prospective students. Student entry will be provisional until these checks have been completed. The outcome of the Policecheck will be kept on the applicant's files. Further information can be found on the Programme Details document that will be forwarded in support of adding this programme.
