About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification is intended for learners of English as an additional language who wish to develop their English language proficiency to pursue academic study requiring a high level of English language competency.

Graduates will have the language skills required to communicate independently and effectively in a wide range of academic situations with fluency and flexibility.

This qualification allows educational institutions and professional bodies to recognise the level at which the graduate can use English for academic purposes.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

There are no mandatory pre-requisites to meet regulatory, or legislative requirements for this qualification. However, international and domestic students must meet the following requirements: Domestic Students must be at least 16 years of age at the time of enrolment and start date of the programme. International students must be at least 18 years of age at the time of enrolment and start date of the programme. AND Produce evidence of proficiency in English equivalent to a Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) B2 Intermediate level. This can be any of the following: - IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5 - TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14) - Cambridge English Qualifications B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill. - OET Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests - NZCEL Level 4 (Academic). International students must possess the appropriate New Zealand student visa and appropriate medical and travel insurance. If a prospective student cannot produce evidence of current English proficiency, Skill New Zealand will use their own placement test to assess and determine the student's entry level. Online students must have the necessary IT to actively participate in the teaching and learning.
