About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

This qualification is intended for learners of English as an additional language who wish to develop their English language proficiency to pursue an academic pathway.

Graduates will have the language skills required to communicate independently and effectively in familiar and some less familiar situations with fluency and flexibility in academic contexts where English is the medium of instructions.

This qualification allows educational institutions to recognise the level at which the graduate can use English for academic purposes.

Entry Requirements

Minimum requirements

Tauira must be at least 16 years of age (unless an exemption from attending school has been granted) at the commencement of the programme and must be New Zealand citizens (or citizens of Australia, Tokelau, Niue, Cook Islands) or permanent residents. Tauira can normally only enrol in one full time programme at a time. Tauira can be enrolled in an additional part-time programme if the academic workload has been considered achievable and the TEC EFTS limit is not exceeded. Tauira may be permitted to enrol in more than one programme concurrently if the dual programme options are approved by Te Rautiaki Matauranga. Tauira must also meet the following programme-specific requirements: - have either completed New Zealand Certificate in English level 3 or possess English language ability equivalent to level 3. - complete a placement test and a pre-enrolment interview to determine whether their intended programme of study is appropriate to their needs.
