On 1 July 2017, the staff and functions of Careers New Zealand transferred to the Tertiary Education Commission.
In December 2017, the Tertiary Education Commission's (TEC) post-election briefing for the new Education Minister Chris Hipkins was released. The briefing outlines TEC's role in the tertiary education sector and its priorities over the next three years, as well as providing an overview of the sector and the organisations involved.
